iTunes: How to Reset Play Count

Mitch BartlettSeptember 18, 2018 Comments (5)

You may want to reset the Plays counter column on a music file that keeps track of how many times you play a file in Apple iTunes. Here’s how.

  1. From the “Songs” list, select the music tracks you wish to reset. You can even select multiple tracks and apply the reset to more than one track. To select all tracks, choose “Edit” > “Select All” or hold “Control” and press the “A” key.
  2. Right-click any of the highlighted tracks and a menu will appear. Single mouse button users can hold “Control” while clicking the highlighted item to make the menu appear.
  3. Select “Song Info“.
  4. Select the “Reset” button to reset the play count.

What happened to the easy approach from the plays list. I used to be able to select of of my playlist, and select reset plays and wham it was done. Sometimes improving gets rid of the best thins. I haven’t been able to resset my plays since. I like going through my songs and then starting over. I would like to see a random selection that wouldn’t repeat a song until they have all been played.

New Apple Music with Version 1.0.1.37 is different. No way to right click.
Highlight your entire library then go to Song > Info…

Brings up a pop up menu.

    Click “Reset” and then “OK”.

“Control” + “A” …? Is this for Windows? I already tried with iTunes 12.6 on macOS.

Does not work. There is NO “Song Info,” just “Get Info.”

Within “Get Info” popup window there is NO “Reset” button whatsoever.”

    Just saying.
